So, we’re in the first full week of 2014, and I’m taking the entire day off for a personal retreat. Why? Because while I don’t really get into making New Year’s Resolutions, I am a big fan of New Year Planning! I booked time away on this day over a month ago, knowing that a whole day by myself in a peaceful environment (a retreat center) would be the best environment for looking at where I am now and where I want to go.
What am I planning? My whole year. I’ll be looking at my business, creating my 2014 marketing plan, putting together some of my special business offerings, and considering my mission. But I’ll also be looking at my personal life, using the SPIRE acronym found in InSpire Coaching. I’ll examine where I am spiritually, physically, intellectually, relationally, and emotionally, and prayerfully consider where I want to be in 12 months. I’ll cast a vision for myself. It’s going to be a wonderful retreat and I’m very excited.
Out of this day of planning will come all my activities. My priorities will be set, and I’ll break down my vision into smaller steps and from there break the steps down into SMART goals. I know I may not meet all of my goals, but that’s fine. The journey is the important part. By doing this planning now, I’ll know what to say “yes” to and what to say “no” to throughout the year.
What about you? How do you plan for the year ahead? Schedule a call and we’ll do some planning for you!
